Meet Me In The Graveyard At Midnight

So this is the first part of the Halloween mixtapes i promised. This is just a short “creepy” one. It clocks in at about 40 odd minutes. While walking home late at night earlier this week  i came up with the concept of making an atmospheric and “intimidating” mixtape that could be used at the beginning of a party, maybe just as the guests are arriving or whatever. My original idea was to make it a bit longer but i was pressed for time so just quickly recorded this one.

The songs i used are ones that i think hell (if there is one) would sound like.

I fell in love with the Drop The Lime remix of “Ruins” as soon as i heard it. The Burial Hex ones speak for themselves. The Wolf Eyes track is borderline terrifying. Aphex Twin as usual is slightly deranged and as for the A Place To Bury Strangers track…well, to me “Falling Sun” has always sounded like the noise that would be playing when the world ends.

Meet Me In The Graveyard At Midnight
————————————————-

1. O.Children – Ruins (Drop The Lime remix)
2. Burial Hex – Go Crystal Tears
3. Wolf Eyes – Village Oblivia
4. A Place To Bury Strangers – Falling Sun
5. Aphex Twin – Gwely Mernans
6. Burial Hex – Will To The Chapel

Here’s a few little bonus tracks thrown in with a skeleton theme just for good measure.

MP3: Adebisi Shank – Bones

MP3: The Cramps – Rockin’ Bones

MP3: This Song Is A Mess But So Am I – Bones Bones Bones

MP3: The Beets – My Bones, My Flesh and Me

MP3: Friendly Fires – Skeleton Boy

MP3: Radiohead – Bones

I’ll get another mixtape up before the weekend is out. I’ve also made a massive 5 hour one for my friends party so i’ll try post some tracks off of that as well and i’ll get some more Halloween themed stuff up too before Hallow’s Eve eventually arrives…

Bring The Static Doom

…….so it’s been a while since the last mixtape was posted. Just 3 weeks short of 6 months to be precise. I hope this one can make up for it.

The original idea for this mixtape was to make a glitch effort but once i had whittled down my tracklist it turned into a kinda best of 65daysofstatic and LOD with a bunch of Bring Me The Horizon remix versions and a few other tracks that just seemed to fit. I made it a while ago now, like March or something. My friends and a small gathering of drunken people at an underground nightclub are the only ones to have heard it. It’s not my most inventive mix yet but it is one of my favourites that i’ve put together so far.

The mix begins with John Cusack  introducing (scene from High Fidelity) over a guitar loop from “Death Breath” and kicks into an hour and seventeen minutes of noise. Some breakbeat, some techno, electro, a pinch of glitch, maybe even some indie/punk, a pop princess or two, some sheer white noise, a bit of gabba, a few mash ups, a few oldies, a few new tracks and just for good measure a little appearance from Albert Einstein.

Someone’s In The Wolf – Bring The Static Doom Mixtape

The main contributions come from:-

Bring Me The Horizon

Skrillex
Avril Lavigne
Otto Von Schirach
Cassio
Ben Weinman
Christina Aguilera
Funeral For A Friend
Saves The Day
Joy Division
Underworld
Hundred Reasons
Natasha Bedingfield
A Static Lullaby
My Chemical Romance
KC Blitz
Horse The Band
L’Amour La Morgue
Thrice

The Dismemberment Plan
Robotsonics
and of course Mr Albert Einstein

I’ll try not to leave it so long between mixtapes next time.

Meet Me In Montauk

Have you ever listened to a song and thought that it totally encapsulates and sums up a film?

I don’t mean a song from a soundtrack though, that’s too obvious. So for example, “Eye of the Tiger” and the Rocky franchise is a no go!  I mean a song that is totally unrelated to a film, one that isn’t on the soundtrack, one that seems to capture that hour and a half or two hours and pour it into 4 or 5 minutes of music.

Well, Thursday, on the way home form work a song came on in shuffle mode on my iPod that just hit me. I’d heard it a thousand times before but this time it just said “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”. So i went home, had a shower, had my dinner (by this time it was 10:30pm) and crawled into my bed and put on my “Eternal Sunshine…..” DVD. I was right. The song IS the film. I’d found the perfect musical version of “Eternal Sunshine”. How did i not realise this before?

The song in question is “The Rudiments of a Spiritual Life” by The American Dollar.

Below i’ve posted MP3’s of the original version and also one that i decided to edit a little. All i’ve done is take a few segments from the film and play them over the intro and the kinda bridge-y part of the song. I think it fits perfectly.

MP3: The American Dollar – Rudiments Of A Spiritual Life

MP3: The Rudiments of a Spotless Mind (S.I.T Wolf Edit)

How happy is the blameless vestal’s lot?
The world forgetting, by the world forget
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Each prayer accepted, each wish resigned

This video montage is worth posting just for Becks cover of “Everybody’s Gotta Learn Sometime”

I’m interested to know if anybody else has any ideas for songs that you think perfectly captures a film so let me know.

Standing On The Edge Of Pop

Hot on the trails of the $elling Out mixtape comes “Standing On The Edge Of Pop”. The concept stays the same on this mix. Although this time its not quite so blatant. $elling Out was designed as a mix that (hopefully) everybody would recognise the songs from. Tracks and artists that pretty much everyone has or should have heard of at some point in their musical life. Standing On The Edge however is a more varied mix that features artists and songs who are well known and some artists who (i believe) should have pop recognition but are still unknown to a certain extent, well unknown to most ears anyway. All of the bands involved in the mix have a certain degree of pop sensibility regarding melody thus their tunes are catchy. Any one of the songs wouldn’t sound out of place on your work radio. Depending on which station you listen to that is. Unfortunately for me, everyone in the garage i work in has a taste in Clyde 102.5 or Real Radio….both are pish. Bring back XFM Scotland! ….. Back to the mix, i tried to make it as variable as i could to cater for many different types of listeners. Every song is a pop gem, some you’ll recognise, some you won’t but i hope you enjoy nonetheless.

9999 Problems (and a mix ain’t one)

Woke up really early yesterday morning, couldn’t get back to sleep so decided to fuck about with a Jay Z instrumental track i had and use some of the random acapellas i had lying around to make an interesting piece of bootleg material. The resulting piece of bashed up glitchness that emerged pleasantly surprised me. This is just a rough demo version, like i said i put it together in the early hours of a sunday morning (probably whilst still under the influence of alcohol). It only took about an hour tops to make this version but i’m going to redo it and maybe add some more acapellas and maybe even some different beats.

MP3: Someones In The Wolf – 9999 Problems (rough version)

Someones In The Wolf 9999 Problems

Mash-up details:

Instrumentation: Jay Z

Acapellas: (in no specific order) Queens of the Stone Age, Radiohead, Muse, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Nine Inch Nails, The Killers, Bon Jovi (yes,….. Bon Jovi)

Feel free to download the track from here or if you just wanna listen to it and listen to a few other tracks i’ve done head over to http://www.myspace.com/someonesinthewolf

Found Fun, Lost Weekend

The Found Fun, Lost Weekend mitxtape was something i decided to put together early yesterday morning. All the songs were chosen on the spot, i had no certain tracks or anything that i was gonna work off of they way that i usually do. I just wanted to make a soundtrack that we could stick on back home after The Bloody Beetroots gig last night (one of the top 3 gigs i’ve been to, easily, but more about that soon). So i started off the mix with a bit of humour then straight into one of my own remixes and then from there onwards just some wonky, glitchy, digital dance music followed by some fast rapping infused songs and then onto a kinda chillout section at the end.

Found Fun, Lost Weekend Tracklist

It Ain’t Love….Not The First Time Anyway

This is a new version of my original MSTRKRFT “It Ain’t Love ” remix.

I wasn’t really pleased with the overall sound of the first version so i decided to give it another go and add a bit more into it. I’m a lot happier with the new version.

It Ain’t Love (Someone’s In The Wolf Remix, New Version)

If anyone wants to hear the original remix it can be found in the Technophobia mixtape on this site or can be found at http://www.myspace.com/someonesinthewolf

Technophobia

Technophobia is by far the loudest and most “sudden” of my mixes so far. There’s no introductions, no voice samples, no bridging between songs and no ending as such. The idea to make it came to me after i had my Ipod on shuffle and  a few songs came on back to back that just seemed to fit perfect together. And that was the birth of this mix. I decided on the name Technophobia because i could use it as a kinda double edged word. On one hand it could be used as a term for “fear of dance/techno music” and on the other it could be used to desribe the actual mix, as it’s technically not techno music i’m using (maybe i have a fear of techno, get it?). It’s more of an electro feel to it, albeit very heavy electro. Hope you enjoy.

Play it loud to annoy the neighbours.

Scared of....YES, THIS WOMAN HAS JUST HEARD THE TECHNOPHOBIA MIXTAPE….
