Burying Strangers In Red Lights

The remaining ” Best of 2010″ lists have finally been drawn up and will be posted over the weekend! Starting with the Top 1o Ep’s of 2010 list tomorrow and carrying through with the best albums, songs etc.

But for now here’s a little treat in the form of A Place To Bury Strangers, Holy Fuck and Thomas Smith. This reminds you that no matter what kind of lowlifes are out there….ART AND ARTISTS ALWAYS WIN.

You may remember last month i posted about A Place to Bury Strangers tour van being robbed whilst they were playing in Italy.

They opened up a donations on PayPal for any willing helpers. I gave what money i could (not a lot) as did some friends and i’m sure others did too. Money obviously helps out and the band would have been grateful for every penny but in the words of A Place To Bury Strangers themselves….

“Sometimes people donate in artistic ways. Thomas Smith made this video of our Holy Fuck remix when he heard we were robbed. Thanks, Thomas!

Here’s the original video.

Shoegaze In Need

Every had anything stolen from you?… It sucks doesn’t it?

Well that’s exaxctly what happened to A Place To Bury Strangers in Rome last Friday night. They had there tour van stolen from outside the venue by some thieving bastard(s). Most of their gear/equipment was still in the venue at the time but nonetheless a lot of merchandise takings and personal belongings etc were in the van.

They posted this update on the matter on their Facebook page a few hours ago….

Looks like we had over 15K in merch money and belongings stolen from the van. Add in the cancelled shows, the excess van rental charges and we have been pummeled financially. We’ve set up a paypal donation link if any of you feel like helping us replace the belongings of our crew. We hesitate to do this but feel horrible about what happened to everyone’s things.

Here’s the link if anyone wants to help out..

A Place To Bury Strangers – Van Stolen donations

I couldn’t really afford to donate a lot at this time of year with Christmas on the horizon. But i donated what i could and if all the fans pull together and donate 5 or ten pounds/dollars each then a little money could end up going a long way.

APTBS are one of the hardest working/touring bands around and are a group of genuine, nice guys. Same goes for their friendly merchandise crew and roadies. I’ve had the pleasure of an amazing stoned conversation with one of the crew after a show in Glasgow. It’s a shame this has happened to all of them. Why couldn’t it have been Coldplay?

Please help out if you can.

The Kids Want Shoegaze

Earlier on this week my friend Callum asked me to compile him a “shoegaze” type mixtape that he could play at a gig that he is hosting. Just something that could act as a noise filler before, between and after the bands have played. I was undecided about whether or not to make it an hour and a half or 2 hours so instead settled for the standard 1 hour and 18 minutes to allow the mix to be transferred to CD if needed.

When it came to making this mix i wanted to make sure i incorporated all elements of shoegaze stylings in the music. There’s the heavy and quiet sides, an electronic element throughout, some less traditional styles of shoegaze, some well known, some lesser known, some shoe-pop or indie-gaze such as Radio Dept and The Rosebuds and onto the ridiculously cool side of shoegaze known as HTRK.  There’s also a few audio samples from films included as usual and there’s a slight curveball at the end in the form of Maybeshewill remixing Minnaars. Techno-shoegaze-core anyone? God i hate genralization.

Anyway, it’s basically just a big effects laden, fuzz filled 80 minutes. Hope you enjoy and feel free to download from Soundcloud or Mediafire. Links are below the setlist.

THE KIDS WANT SHOEGAZE
1. 93 Million Miles From The Sun – Step Into The High
2. A Place To Bury Strangers – In Your Heart
3. Screen Vinyl Image – Cathode Ray
4. The Jesus and Mary Chain – Degenerate
5. Ringo Deathstarr – Swirly
6. Singapore Sling – Overdriver
7. The Band In Heaven – Dreams (cover of The Cranberries)
8. Crocodiles – I Wanna Kill
9. Rraaiillss – Red Strings
10. Manhattan Love Suicides – Skulls
11. Mixtapes And Cellmates – Soon
12. The Radio Dept – Ewan
13. Team Ghost – Only You Can Break My Heart
14. M83 – Teen Angst
15. Autolux – Turnstile Blues
16. HTRK – Ha
17. Stuck In The Sound – Zapruder
18. The Rosebuds – Border Guards
19. Tired Irie – Freeze Me A River (Maybeshewill remix)
20. Minnaars – Spelt With A K (Maybeshewill remix)

Meet Me In The Graveyard At Midnight

So this is the first part of the Halloween mixtapes i promised. This is just a short “creepy” one. It clocks in at about 40 odd minutes. While walking home late at night earlier this week  i came up with the concept of making an atmospheric and “intimidating” mixtape that could be used at the beginning of a party, maybe just as the guests are arriving or whatever. My original idea was to make it a bit longer but i was pressed for time so just quickly recorded this one.

The songs i used are ones that i think hell (if there is one) would sound like.

I fell in love with the Drop The Lime remix of “Ruins” as soon as i heard it. The Burial Hex ones speak for themselves. The Wolf Eyes track is borderline terrifying. Aphex Twin as usual is slightly deranged and as for the A Place To Bury Strangers track…well, to me “Falling Sun” has always sounded like the noise that would be playing when the world ends.

Meet Me In The Graveyard At Midnight
————————————————-

1. O.Children – Ruins (Drop The Lime remix)
2. Burial Hex – Go Crystal Tears
3. Wolf Eyes – Village Oblivia
4. A Place To Bury Strangers – Falling Sun
5. Aphex Twin – Gwely Mernans
6. Burial Hex – Will To The Chapel

just right click and save as
MP3: Someone’s In The Wolf – Meet Me In The Graveyard At Midnight

Here’s a few little bonus tracks thrown in with a skeleton theme just for good measure.

MP3: Adebisi Shank – Bones

MP3: The Cramps – Rockin’ Bones

MP3: This Song Is A Mess But So Am I – Bones Bones Bones

MP3: The Beets – My Bones, My Flesh and Me

MP3: Friendly Fires – Skeleton Boy

MP3: Radiohead – Bones

I’ll get another mixtape up before the weekend is out. I’ve also made a massive 5 hour one for my friends party so i’ll try post some tracks off of that as well and i’ll get some more Halloween themed stuff up too before Hallow’s Eve eventually arrives…

How Did We Get So High Without Flying?

First off i’d just like to say that this weed i’m smoking right now is fucking amazing. Kudos to Simon for the heads up.

Moving on, i’m really sorry for the complete lack of posts recently. Hopefully this one should make up for it.

The reason i haven’t been posting recently is because we still don’t have the internet connection sorted in the new flat yet. I never thought 2 weeks without the internet would affect me in the way it has. I miss Cracked.com the most. That was my daily read. I’ll be permanently back online by the beginning of June but until then it’ll have to be random posts whenever and indeed wherever i find the time and space.
http://www.cracked.com/

I’m writing this post from my parents house (i came to visit my mum tonight). She made me my dinner tonight, her cooking is still unsurpassed. Still the best.

I’m really enjoying staying on my own and finally getting to dip my toes into the dark waters of the big bad world. But i’d be lying if i said that i don’t miss “home” and my old bedroom in particular. It wasn’t the biggest, it wasn’t the nicest but it was mine.

Not much has changed in the two weeks since i’ve moved out. I think my mum and dad are planning on changing the room into some sort of spare room for when little Emily stays over.  But until then it remains undisturbed. Everything i chose to leave behind is still there, still stationed exactly where i left it.

The trails of blue tack still grace the walls like confusing dot to dot puzzles. Just pieces of blue lumps attaching themselves to the wallpaper free at last of gig tickets, stolen posters and memories. The carpet bares the scars of many a drunken night, it lies in anticipation, waiting for the only pair of trainers that it’s familiar with to come trodding over it and plant themselves behind the door. The TV unit still occupies the far corner and still slowly and wilfully gathers dust like sand on a beach. The shelves remain committed to the walls, almost frightened to let go, scared to part. The cupboard door still jams slightly if it reaches more than a 60 degree angle and i’m still the only one who knows how to open it properly without tearing the rug from the floor. I take a strange kind of comfort in that fact.

I suppose it’s only a matter of time before this rooms loses it familiarity but right now it still kinda feels like home. A home from home if you like. The history still and always will remain yet somehow i sense it’s ready for a new beginning but at the same time i know it won’t forget the past…and neither will i.

Now it may come across that i miss “home” like hell. That i’m inconsolable about moving out and want to return. In fact that couldn’t be further from the truth. Yes, i miss home, i miss my village but this is a new chapter in my life. One that’s only just begun and has many pages still to turn.

The area that i’ve moved too ( Kelvinside/Maryhill) is a nice place. It has a certain naivety about that i can’t quite put my finger on just yet but i’m sure i will soon. The locals are mainly students and businessmen and women although i have seen a few semi famous footballers strolling around so far.

I’ve kinda fell in love with the Botanic Gardens and the Kelvin Walkway in particular. It’s scattered leaves and chirping birds breed a feeling of tranquillity.  It’s woozy charm, distinguished smells, welcoming benches and green outlines have pulled me in. I walk it twice a day. To and fro work. Each morning and night soundtracked by a different album. Populated only by cyclists, dog walkers and the occasional jogger it’s uneven, winding paths are a welcome change from the hustle and bustle of Glasgows busy West End streets were students and workers alike roam around like cattle and cars shuffle along from traffic light to traffic light. Red, amber, green. Red, amber, green.
I’ve already spent a few nights down in the depths of the walkway. Sitting amongst the shards of bark and the singing birds. Being alone down there with some good weed and my Ipod is pretty much heaven to me. It clears the headspace and inspires.

As for the flat itself, i’m over the moon. I mean obviously i like it or i wouldn’t have moved in but i find it more and more comfortable as each night passes. After two weeks it’s truly starting to feel like MY house. Whether i’m lying in bed watching a DVD, lying on the couch eating Doritos and playing the PS3, relaxing in the chair with a book and a bottle of rum or even simply doing the dishes. Either way it doesn’t matter, it feels like my own place. It feels nice.

My favourite moment so far was Saturday morning just past. I woke up at 9:30am, had a shower and took a wander over to the local shop and bought the essentials. Newspaper, milk and bread. £2.30. I then plundered back up the stairs to the flat, put the kettle on, slid to slice of Hovis into the toaster and waited. Toast ready. I spread the butter onto the now crispy and golden brown surface and  apply the perfectly sliced cheese. Then it’s the coffees turn. Two dollops of Nescafe followed by the water and a splash of milk. A quick stir and i’m ready to go. I was ready for the table by the window.
Once seated i wet my thumb and proceed to skim through newspaper whilst at the same time slowly yet eagerly devouring my coffee and toast. When i’m finished i reach for a Marlboro light, open the window and puff away till my heart’s content. All the while gazing out the window onto the buildings around and the streets below. Gazing out to the place i now call “home”. That’s when it kicked in….” I live HERE now, this is MY house, MY street”. It’s the simple things.

The new surroundings have also triggered a new sense of eagerness to start making music again. I’d been greatly uninspired for months but i find my thirst for making music returning slowly. Recently i picked up my guitar for the first time in weeks (months even maybe) and plugged in the old faithful pedal and strummed and picked away all night. I’ve decided to start a new project. I know how i want it to sound but i don’t know what i want to call it (suggestions more than welcome). I want the new music to sound ethereal. You know that dream like state, almost like elation. The feeling you get when you wake up on a Sunday morning knowing that you can go back to sleep. That’s what i want to encapsulate. I’ve already harboured a few ideas and garnered a few guitar sounds and loops together. I’ll be sure to stick some demos/samples up on here when i next get the chance.

Also as a random thing….i’m getting two goldfish soon. It’s something i’ve had in my head for months. I even have names planned now. One will be called Lemon and the other will be Jack. 30 Rock Obssession much?

So, what does the future hold for me and this blog? Well, with the blog i won’t be able to post regularly or even semi-regularly until June. But next time i’m near a computer i’ll  make the time to get the Six Mix and Video Dose for May posted. I know i’ve mentioned the new mixtape a few times as well and that will go up some point soon in the next few weekends. There’s also so much more in the pipeline. Once i’m back online i’ll be pretty much posting non-stop. I’ll be sitting at the table, glass of rum in one hand and typing with the other.

As for my social life, that hasn’t been affected at all. I’ve made time for family and friends. I always do, they’re and always will be the most important thing in my life. I’ve paid numerous visits to people and had a few vistors myself. I’ve had friends over and had a few unplanned visits, mostly at weekends…coincidence? Drunken friends looking for somewhere to crash for the night! I know the deal, i’ve done it myself a hundred times, it’s fine. All part and parcel of being a friend if you ask me. The actual house warming party itself hasn’t been arranged yet and is looking likely to happen somewhere between the beginning and middle of June.

I’ve got a few gigs lined up as well.

22nd May at Various Venues in Glasgow is the Stag and Dagger festival. It’s choc-a-bloc with some truly eclectic and amazing artists and DJs. It should prove to be a classic night in the making.

http://www.last.fm/festival/1364459+Stag+And+Dagger

26th of May at Stereo is the welcome return to live action of Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster.

And finally, Maybeshewill will be tearing down the walls at Admiral Bar on the 1st of June.

I’ll do my best to get reviews of the gigs up if i can.

I’ll be back posting regularly soon, until then, take care.

The 30 Best Songs of 2009

Ok so a week into 2010 is a bit late for a “best of 2009” post but any regular readers (are there any?) will know i’ve had problems with hard-drives, my internet connection, my laptop in general and more recently some other stuff has came up that has prevented regular posting recently.

But back to the post..

Deciding on the songs and the order of them for this Top 30 was a hard decision (the Top 30 albums was even harder, post that at the weekend) to make. Basically there were only one rule when picking the list. The rule was that a band can not feature more than once in the list. If that rule wasn’t made then i’d have had the full APTBS album in there, shit, i’ve just gave away the identity of my album of the year haven’t i?

Apart from that it was pretty simple. 30 slots and hundreds of songs. Pick the best.

Remember though, having a song in the Top 30 songs doesn’t automatically mean that the artists will be in the Top 30 album countdown as well. Take for example Yes Giantess, Ou Est Le Swimming Pool and Stuck In The Sound. In the case of YG and OELSP they won’t make the Top albums cos they don’t have one out yet and in the case of Stuck In The Sound its because their album just wasn’t good enough (imo) to be in the Top 30. The song i included here however “Zapruder” is pure shoegaze genius. There’s also the other side of the coin. Bands like The Prodigy, MSTRKRFT and many more brought up absolute brilliant albums in 2009 but even though their albums as a collective were amazing, none of the individual tracks managed to make it into the Top 30 songs.

Sorry i’m not very good at trying to get my point across. I think i might just be trying to justify the fact that i had to leave some amazing songs out of the Top 30. I would have made a Top 500 if i had the time!

So away from the mumbled jibberish that i just wrote, here is the list in countdown style 30 to Number 1

SOMEONE’S IN THE WOLF TOP 30 SONGS OF 2009

30. Erol Alkan & Boys Noize – Death Suite (Bobermann Remix)

25. Stuck In The Sound – Zapruder
24.  Mew – Introducing Palace Players
23. Tigers That Talked – Artificial Clouds
22. The XX – Night Time
21. Yes Giantess – Tuff N Stuff
20. Bat For Lashes – Daniel
19. Miike Snow – Animal
18. Russian Circles – Malko
17. IAMX – I Am Terrified
16.  Maybeshewill – Co-Conspirators
15. Them Crooked Vultures – New Fang
14. The Temper Trap – Sweet Disposition (re-release)

2. Passion Pit – Moths Wings

And the winner of Track of 2009 goes to

1. Ex Libras – Radar

Instead of making all these tracks available individually i’ve  put them all in a ZipFile for anybody who wishes to download the list. The songs have been numbered so they should play in the correct order.

Download it here:

Once again sorry for the delay.

A Place To Find Strangers

WARNING: This article contains the abbreviation APTBS a lot, this is an abbreviation of A Place To Bury Strangers. Some people don’t know that, isn’t that right Chris?

The build up to last nights “A Place To Bury Strangers” and “Japandroids” gig at the Captains Rest couldn’t have been worse. I wasn’t feeling too grand (the beginnings of a cold i think), i was very tired, i had sore limbs from the previous nights 5-a-side football (Andy/Begbie nearly broke my foot!) and also due to certain circumstances i was now going to the gig on my own. Looked like i was set to have a brilliant night eh?

Well, actually, yes i did.

I arm myself with my camera, my bank card and my iPod and i’m off. I make my journey to the Captains Rest accompanied by a soundtrack of the APTBS debut album and 10 Marlboro Lights. I’m still not too optimistic about the night ahead. The plan is: sneak into the venue, hope nobody spots that i’m on my own, have a few beers, listen to the music then go back to the city centre and meet up with the rest of the guys that were out. They were away to see Kasabian and Alice in Chains respectively. My opinions on them? The latter band i love and if it wasn’t for the APTBS gig being on the same night i would be at the Barra’s watching them. As for the former, i USED to love them. Their self titled debut album was amazing, just what was needed at the time in 2004, a fresh change from the drab music of the time. Then somehow Kasabian just got shit. I won’t elaborate on reasons why or go into my feelings on them, i just think they’re now Oasis in disguise. Back to last night now.

I enter the Captains Rest and shuffle straight up to the bar, order a pint of Kronenbourg then retire to the end of the bar. I’m just standing there thinking bout random things (how cool would it be to have a triangle donut? does the postman deliver his own mail? why is Robbie Williams allowed to live?) like i always do, when suddenly a dude comes up and says “nice hoodie, where’d you get it?”. He’s referring to my DFA1979 hoodie. Which, by the way, is nice, i like it 🙂 I’m only just realising that it always seems to garner attention wherever i go so maybe i’ll stop wearing it now! I’ve never been one for attention, i prefer staying in the background. Although i’m glad i wore it tonight or else i may very well have spent this gig on my own! I’ll explain..

I get chatting to him about various things for fifteen minutes or so. Music, beer, football, weed, facial hair, the usual man banter really. I find out he plays guitar and loves shoegaze-y music, a good bonus , i also enquire about his accent and discover he’s French. His name’s Romain. Just as we’re bantering away, two girls walk over. Anna and Francesca. Francesca is Romains girlfriend, she’s also French and Anna is an English girl who is helping them settle in Glasgow. I find out that they moved here in the summer. More to the point i’m just happy i’ve met people and i’m not on my own at this gig anymore! We buy a few rounds of Red Stripe then head downstairs to watch the gig. Romain hands me a strange little box, i struggle to read it in the dark, i squint and can just about see the writing on it. Eventually i recognise the writing as “A Place To Bury Strangers” and “Exploding Head”. Romain says to keep the box but to open it up first. I open it and find ear plugs in it. Romain explains that he seen APTBS live in NY last year, consequently met the band and they gave him a few of these boxes and they sometimes sell them at their gigs. How cool is that?! Anyway, i thank him for the gift but then close the box back over. There’s no way i’m going to lessen the impact that APTBS and Japandroids have on my ears, on record they are loud, live they are absolutely frighteningly loud. I like it that way. No ear plugs for me.

japandroids1

Japandroids @ Captains Rest 12/11/09

The Captains Rest is the perfect setting for the the noise of APTBS and Japandroids. Its tiny “sardines packed in a tin” feel brings the audience closer than any other venue i’ve ever known. Any band that i’ve seen here previously couldn’t have prepared us for what was ahead though.

jap2

Brian King: Guitars and Vox (Japandroids)

The Japandroids scramble on stage and introduce themselves, this is the Canadian duo’s first time in Scotland. They look pleasantly surprised at the amount of support they get from the crowd and then blast through a set full of punk noise the belies the capability of just two men. Brian King plays guitar and does the lions share of the vocals and David Prowse bangs the skins and screams and sings his way through his fair share of songs as well. I’ve been into the Japandroids since about March this year. I found them on Last FM and have tried my best to spread the word since. They remind me of a certain band. I’ll let you guess. Canadian? Two piece? Noise Rock? Plenty facial fuzz? Tunes to back up the punk attitude?….You got it yet? ….Make no mistake, these guys have the potential to be the new Death From Above 1979. Although to be honest i don’t like comparing bands to each other, it’s not fair on either so instead i’ll just say the Japandroids sound like they might be influenced by DFA and it’s a badge they seem to wear with pride. One things for sure though, they have a more “garage rock” feel about them then DFA, who had a more “electro” feel when they were around. I can only hope that Japandroids will be around a lot longer than DFA were and release a few more albums than their Canadian counterparts. They certainly made a perfect start with their debut album “Post Nothing”, it’s out now, get it bought. And don’t make any excuses! It’s not hard to find, i bought mine in Fopp. Like i said earlier, last nights show was the Japandroids first show in Scotland but it certainly won’t be their last, in fact they announced at the end of their set that they’ll be back over here next February. Be there. I will.

japandroids3

David Prowse : Drums and Vox (Japandroids)

MP3:  Japandroids – Heart Sweats

MP3: Japandroids – Crazy Forever

The Japandroids song “Wet Hair” is my favourite track of theirs. My band Capgras covered it back in August and we changed the lyrics from “Wet Hair” to “Red Hair” and dedicated it to Si’s girlfriend!

VIDEO: Japandroids – Wet Hair

And now in the words of Japandroids drummer David Prowse “I hope you’re ready to have your face melted by A Place To Bury Strangers, you’ll lose brain cells if you’re down the front, they make us sound like an acoustic folk duo”. Brain cells? Lose? Down the front? That’s me fucked then. In all seriousness though that is mighty words coming from a guy whose band just about tore the ceiling off with their noise decibels. After all the roadies and guitar fiddler guys have left and the stage is good to go we move to part two of the gig. Enter stage left A Place To Bury Strangers. The dry ice ascends and the red mist covers the stage. My first thought is how the band have managed to fit on stage. Their amps are massive and the the pedals are spread out all over the floor, there’s wires, leads and cables going everywhere. How APTBS have squeezed on to this tiny platform is a mystery. But they’re here and they’re ready to blow us away. And they proceed to do just that. Starting off with some improvised effect intros and barging straight into “Missing You” then carrying on into a mixture of tracks from their eponymous debut album and new release “Exploding Head”. They hardly stop for breath between songs and Oliver Ackermann mumbles a few words here and there to the crowd. Nobody here though is bothered about crowd interaction, we didn’t come to have a chat with the band members. We came to have our ears assaulted. The band continue to pulverise our senses and end the gig with an extended wall of sound jam, leaving us with feedback ringing in our ears all the way upstairs and even 5 minutes later outside having a smoke we can still hear the lingering buzz of the Death By Audio pedals that Ackermann is famous for. We are well and truly bruised by the levels of noise we’ve just experienced. But thats what we expected, what we wanted and what we got.

VIDEO: A Place To Bury Strangers – In Your Heart

Afterwards whilst in the bar discussing the gig we all get talking about what we're upto the next day or at the weekend etc. Francesca and Anna are going shopping (might have guessed!), Romain is planning on watching the Republic of Ireland vs France football match on Saturday but has no one to watch it with (sound familiar?). But, yep, you guessed it, i'm going out to watch that game in the pub with a few mates and invited him along. A few more drinks and it's time for me to go catch the last Subway back to town or i'll need to taxi it. I kinda don't wanna go, i'm enjoying myself with these 3 "strangers" but needs must. Before i go we exchange numbers and i'm off into the night/early morning to spend what remains of this Thursday/Friday in Nice N Sleazys drinking White Russians and listening to my mates say how i bet i wished i'd just decided to go to Alice In Chains and how good Kasabian were…….. Well, i just had a fucking amazing night in the Captains Rest thank you very much.

On October the 6th New York noise mongers “A Place To Bury Strangers” return with new album “Exploding Head”. Aptly titled if you ask me. I’ve had a listen, my speakers exist no more, yes, it’s that loud. The band consists of guitarist and vocalist Oliver Ackermann and the brilliantly monikered bassist Jono Mofo and drummer Jay Space. The trio released their self titled debut album back in 2007. I remember the first time i heard it. It literally blew me away. It was loud, it was riddled with effects pedals (Ackermann is the founder of Death By Audio in all fairness), it was melodic, the vocals and overall feel of the album harked back to the days of the Jesus and Mary Chain and My Bloody Valentine. Shoegaze at its best in other words. The song “The Falling Sun” from that debut album is so loud and encapsulating that when i first heard it through headphones it felt like the end of the world was about to happen, i was convinced the apocalypse was coming through my IPod, thats how doom laden their music can be yet they always carry a sense of melody in all their tracks and wear their influences proudly.

Anyways back to the new stuff. The band have carried on where they left off on their new album. They’ve kept all the ingredients that made their debut the huge success that it was and then added more groove this time around. There’s still the apocalyptic feel and the effects pedals are still present the whole way throughout the album but there’s definitely a sense of something new, i think it may be that this is the band finding themselves and realising what they’re capable of achieving on “Exploding Head” and it’s all the better for it. The last song on the “Exploding Head” titled “I Lived My Life To Stand In The Shadow Of Your Heart” is both beautiful and scary at the same time, not something a lot, if any, other bands can achieve. Put simply, A Place To Bury Strangers are in a world of their own. It’s just as well for us that we’re allowed in.
