THE MONDAY LIST #11: Tache Masters

I’d just like to start off by noting that today is Saint Andrews day, for those who are unaware. He is the patron Saint of Scotland….and Greece, Ukraine, Russia and Romania nonetheless. But seeing as i’m Scottish i had planned on making a special Scottish artists themed Monday List. But i promised a moustache review last week so i’m sticking with that theme and i’ll get a Scottish artists post in before the end of the year, i’ll make sure it’s a big post too. That should more than make up for the delay in my promised Scottish themed post. As i’ve said many times before there is so much musical talent in this country, some heard and some unheard.

But on to this weeks list and a small review of my 5 days living with a moustache.

*NOTE* All entries on this weeks list will have their picture posted next to them. For facial hair comparison purposes more than anything else i suppose.

Before i begin the countdown i’ll clear something up for anyone who is offended by the exclusion of Freddie Mercury, i deliberately left him out because he is the King of Taches and would out-tache any contenders to the throne too easily.

At number one is the late Frank Zappa, known as much for his facial fuzz as his whacked out freaky jazz rock compositions. Number two is Spinal Tap and their bassist with the mostest Derek Smalls. Number three is the lanky gothic legend, the dapper devil himself, Nick Cave. Boogie-ing his way on in at number four is the actual Devil, Jess “The Devil” Hughes and his amazing ,sexual innuendo loving band the Eagles of Death Metal. At number five the psychedelic moustachioed Captain Beefheart. Number six? One of my favourite bands ever who just happen to contain the moustache sporting musical chameleon that is Jesse F Keeler. Sleazing they’re way in to number seven are The Teenagers (check out their remix of Mer Du Japon, it’s late night heaven), led by Quentin Delafon. Number eight are a band who at one point clearly got together and said lets ALL grow moustaches at the same time, The Beatles. Not their biggest fan but respect for the joint tache venture. Lagging in at number nine is Weezer and Rivers Cuomo’s  “different” period he went through when he decided to spring a moustache upon us all. Finally at number 10 is the frankly baffling attempt by The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers to be taken seriously. “Hey, look i have a tache!” Ok Brandon i can see that but that doesn’t mean your band will ever have more than one good album. We all know what one it is, Hot Fuss of course. But the lead single from their second effort promised so much more than was actually delivered and for that reason we’ll include “When You Were Young” and Brandon at the tail end of the Tache Masters list.

And special bonus videos, one for the Tache King (ironically a video where he doesn’t have his famous moustache) and one dedicated to a Mr Moustache himself….

VIDEO: Nirvana – Mr Moustache

VIDEO: Queen – Crazy Little Thing Called Love

And a few bonus MP3s for you to download, believe me these 4 songs are ALL worth downloading. The song by Moustache of Insanity is probably the most random 1 minutes 6 seconds of lyrics you’ll ever hear. The song by Jean Moustache is just sheer sleazy French disco. Pat Cantins song My Lovely Moustache is a gathering of chilled beats and fuzzy mellow bleeps and synth crackles that bring to mind a very stoned version of a certain Richard D James. As for the last track well it’s worth downloading and listening to for the title alone, “Grow Your Own Fucking Moustache, Asshole” indeed. If i was to attempt to describe the song i would be swayed to say “An Angry Hairy Lipped Man Singing About How His Lip Caterpillar Is Better Than Yours”. Or we could just settle for “Orchestral/electronical indie masterpiece with moustache related threats”. Whichever you prefer. Just download all 4 and have your own little Moustache Related Music Session.

Moustache Of Insanity. Clearly the more insane one is in the green shirt.

MP3: Moustache of Insanity – Imagine

Jean Moustache (apparently)

MP3: Jean Moustache – Vodka Champagne

Pat Cantin and his "lovely" moustache.

MP3: Pat Cantin – My Lovely Moustache

The Wet Secrets. There's 5 of them, so you BETTER do as they say and grow your own fucking moustache.

Now for the Tache Review
——————————

SUNDAY the 22nd: I officially join the Movember club and shave myself a strange breed of moustache/beard. I head round to Andys to see if he’s kept his part of the agreement. He has. He has a handlebar. I’m relieved. I’m not alone in Tacheland. Me, Andy, Chris and Ewan have all agreed to sport our own forms of facial fuzz for this week.

A tache AND a pout!? What was i thinking?!

MONDAY the 23rd: My first day actually venturing outside my comfort zone with this thing on my face. As soon as i leave the house at 7am i feel the cold morning air stiffen my baldy chin, there’s usually a goatee of some sort there. It feels weird without it. I board the bus with my jacket pulled tightly over my mouth and lower part of my face before mumbling my required destination to the bus driver. He looks at me oddly and beckons me onboard. The rest of the journey is secure enough, the bus is pretty empty. I get to my work, take the expected YMCA jokes on the chin (pardon the pun) and open my toolbox.

TUESDAY the 24th: The morning is pretty much a repeat of the previous morning although this time a picture of Lemmy has been stuck to the side of my toolbox. My sister and niece come over to visit after work. My sister Lisa is adamant that she has to take pictures of this ghastly design on my face. She does so. 3 0r 4 times. I cringe in embarrassment for most until i get a picture taken with little Emily and even though i sport this ridiculous thing i can’t help but smile. The pictures from then on in are taken with me in funny/silly mode. Lisa insists she was only taking the pix so she could show Gary (my bro in law) but i know she showed all her friends! Revenge will be mine Lisa, be warned.

The "casual" handlebar and obligatory puzzled look

WEDNESDAY the 25th: I’ve now shaven off the Lemmy-esque side breezer bits of the mosutache beard and i’m down to an almost “normal” version of the handlebar. The journey to work somehow becomes even more awkward as i start to wonder why i’ve even bothered to do this. But an agreement is an agreement and i feel a bit less daft looking when Chris turns up at my place with his very own handlebar effort. I say effort because he’s tried to grow one but its a bit whispy and more like a set of whiskers than a moustache. But at least he’s kept his bumfluff effort unlike some! Andy shaved his off on the Sunday night, he basically only kept it on the Sunday to prove he’d done it then proceeded to shave it off  later that night thinking i’d never know! Cheat. His flatmate Joe stuck him in.

THURSDAY the 26th: My last day of Tache Torture! I’ve shaved off the handlebar bit now and its just a plain old moustache. According to my mum and sister i now resemble an exact replica of my father as a 24 year old. I don’t know whats worse, the fact that they said that or the fact that my dad grew one of these disaster taches out of choice back in the day! Work today is a lot easier, Ewan has returned from holiday and is true to his word. He has a moustache! Some of the friendly abuse is now directed at him. I’m secretly grateful to my shaggy haired friend for sparing me another day as the works focal point of jokes. I’ll buy him a pint later but only on the agreement that its a Guinness and he has to take a huge gulp so he gets a Guinness moustache. I get home on the Thursday and relax knowing that when the morning comes i can finally rid myself of this multi-coloured thing living below my nose.

Words fail me. I can only apologise for any long term damage done to anyone by the viewing of this picture.

FRIDAY the 27th: i rise at 6am and head straight to the bathroom. Hot water, shaving foam, BRAND NEW RAZOR and within 2 minutes it’s gone! I’m free. No more awkward bus journeys, no more “Alright Freddy Mercury” cries in work, no more itchy lip and no more patter from a certain person saying “You actually quite suit that Johnny” in the hope that i’ll keep it. I’m not falling for that one, you know who you are!

I PROMISE I WILL NEVER GROW A MOUSTACHE AGAIN………….UNTIL NEXT MOVEMBER

I Moustache You A Question

Movember (a portmanteau of the words ‘Moustache’ and ‘November’), is an annual month-long event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November. The event has been claimed to have been invented in 1999 by group of Australian men from Adelaide.

Since 2004, the Movember Foundation charity has run Movember events to raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer and depression, in Australia and New Zealand. In 2007, events were launched in Ireland, Canada, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

I’ve went unshaven for pretty much the whole of November. The reason? I had an agreement with a few friends that we would let our facial fuzz grow for a few weeks and then shave it into some form of moustache for the last week in November so we could do our own little contribution to the Movember Campaign. Well the beginning of the last week in November started yesterday. So on Sunday afternoon i blew the dust off my razor and had a shave, i must admit i was tempted to shave the whole beard off as it was getting itchy as hell BUT i stuck to the agreement and shaved myself a Lemmy style moustache/beard effort. Today i’ve came to the decision that for each remaining day this week i’ll have a different style. Basically i’ll gradually shave the moustache off bit by bit. So Sunday, yesterday and today i sported the Lemmy style. Tomorrow will be the simple yet overwhelmingly camp handlebar, Thursday will be a “normal”, casual moustache and on Friday it comes off. I realise that technically that means i’ve only sported a moustache for 5 days and not a week. But Sunday to Thursday is enough for me! Plus, i’ve got a night out on Friday and there is no way that i’m heading into the Glasgow nightlife with a hairy top lip!

Tom Selleck's gotta be in there somewhere!

This Friday, i’ll do a special post about my 5 days living with my moustache and also a special “Top Lip Music Top Ten” List that’ll include the best ten moustaches in music.  I’ll also stick up some pictures of my own fuzz so everyone can have a laugh at my hairy lipped expense.

Until then though enjoy two classic moustaches……technically these two dudes have beards but seeing as i’m saving the Moustache Brigade for Friday they’ll do for the moment.

MP3: Motorhead – Ace Of Spades

MP3: Kris Kristofferson – Closer To The Bone

And as a little taster of what to expect from my own facial creations have a look  (and listen) at this….

THE MONDAY LIST #10: Family Values

This weeks list is compiled of musical duos that are siblings. I realise it would have been easier to do a post about siblings in music in general but i like the ideas of duos better, the whole “it’s just the two of us” kind of logic.

When brothers/sisters get together and make the choice of recording music together, whether it’s as a duo or as part of a band, there’s no telling what noise might end up being produced. It goes either one of two ways, the absolutely dreadful (The Jonas Brothers) or unbelievably good (Boards of Canada).

There are quite a few factors that come in to play when siblings unite musically. First off, do you get along? Do you get along enough to tour without constantly fighting, to make an album without arguing when the next guitar solo should come in and who should be on the front cover. Secondly, tastes. If one of you likes RnB and the other likes Death Metal then forget it. Thats not to say that for siblings to work well musically they have to like the exact same music but like most people starting up bands it helps to at least have some similar tastes. Thirdly, age difference. With the exception of the Jackson 5, if the age difference between band members is pretty big (say 10 or 15 years maybe) then it’s probably not gonna work. So with that we move onto the list..

Family Values
——————-
MP3’s

1. Boards Of Canada – The Colour Of The Fire
2. Orbital – Chime
3. The Knife – Pass This On
4. Lymbyc Systym – Ghost Clock
5. The Fiery Furnaces – Even In The Rain
6. Tiny Masters Of Today – Stickin’ It To The Man
7. Sparks – Turn Your Back On Mother Earth
8. Tiefschwarz – Yeah
9. Tegan And Sara – Back In Your Head
10. The Veronicas – Untouched

And briefly moving away from the subject of sibling duos i’ll give a nod to two of my favourite bands that just happen to include siblings.

VIDEO: Jesus And Mary Chain – Sidewalking

VIDEO: Radiohead – Reckoner

Also worth a mention in the “Siblings That Work Well Musically” category are The Stooges, Kings Of Leon,  The Breeders, The Carpenters, The Kinks, Psychedelic Furs,  The Misfits, The Black Crowes and sometimes but not all of the time…..Oasis. I have a somewhat love/hate relationship with that band. There are times when i could listen to a full album or two right through and other times when i can’t bear to listen to more than 30 seconds of one of their songs.

Meanwhile there are too many that should be lumped in the “Utter Shit Musical Siblings” category. Way too many to mention but i’ll give dishonourable mentions to The Cheeky Girls, B*Witched, The Darkness, the afore mentioned Jonas Brothers, Spandau Ballet, Bros, The Osmonds, the streak of musical piss that is Hanson and last but not least the latest siblings to jump on the Shit Siblings band wagon….JedFUCKINGWard. Go away please you two annoying quiffed up little bag of bones.

I’ve actually succeeded in bemusing myself as to how i’ve managed to include the names Jedward and Boards of Canada into the same post.

Oh and The Corrs are worth a mention (and a picture) simply because of Andrea Corr. I had a major crush on her in my early teenage years.

I Have Five Clocks In My Life And Only One Has The Time Right

No matter what kind of mood i’m in if i listen to this song i become happy. I’ve listened to it at least once a day for about a year now and i’m still not tired of it. I doubt i ever will be. The whole album “Grand” is amazing but this song still sticks out as my favourite.

Seriously, you could tell me that i’d just been sacked from my job, i’ve been thrown out my house and someones hacked into my bank account then play me this song and i’d still just smile. It’s everything about it, the lyrics, the way he sings, the catchy lead piano parts and even the video. In fact the video makes me smile even more. It’s just a very happy kind of video, i can’t explain it really. The drummer Kim has has an insanely infectious smile throughout the video and Matt has that distinctive upbeat voice. Enough talking about it though, you get the point.  Below are  free MP3’s for a few different versions of the song. The first is the original version, the second is essentially a slowed down version of the song which appears at the end of their album “Grand” and the last version is pretty much a cover version to be honest.

THE MONDAY LIST #9: I Change Shapes Just To Hide In This Place…

Tonights list is dedicated to songs that come in all shapes and sizes, literally. The criteria for the list required having a shape (or reference to shapes) in the song title or the artists name. Some songs are quite long, the New Order track clocks in at just under 7 minutes and there are a few short ones, namely the track by The Octagon and the song “Tommib” by Squarepusher which is barely over a minute long. The avid film fans among you may recognise that particular Squarepusher track from the film Lost In Translation. The particular scene that it’s from is a perfect example of music and cinema coming together to create a beautiful moment.

MP3’s
I Change Shapes Just To Hide In This Place…

1. Testicicles – Circle Square Triangle
2. Idlewild – When I Argue I See Shapes
3. Squarepusher – Tommib

6. The Models – Bend Me, Shape Me
7. The Octagon – Suicide Kings
8. Nirvana – Heart Shaped Box
9. Russian Circles – Hexed All
10. Circlesquare – Hey, You Guys

Bonus tracks…

Two songs from absolute classic albums. both with Shape in the titles.

from The Shape of Punk To Come..

MP3: Refused – New Noise

and from The Colour and The Shape…

And thats it for another week.

I Live As I Dream, Alone

PART 1
———-

Is it philiphobia? Is it simple monophobia? Is it a fear of being hurt again? Fear of committing to someone again? Fear of putting all emotions out in the open for someone to see? Fear of taking that next step? Or is it just me thinking too much about things as always? Is it something totally unrelated to what i think it is? Do i actually maybe enjoy things the way they are but don’t realise it? Am i scared of change? I honestly don’t know. But whatever it is, it’s fucking annoying.

MP3: Incubus – Pardon Me

MP3: Ryan Adams – Dear Chicago

alone-13004

“I want to think someone’s beautiful, that they’re so beautiful it’s a thrill to be near them. Fill my stomach with butterflies, have me floating on air, bring something out of me i didn’t know was there. But it’s such a torturous thing that i am not excited by anyone.”

PART 2
———

Then of course there’s the flip side…

MP3: Secret Machines – Alone, Jealous and Stoned

MP3: The Coral – Dreaming of You

PART 3
———

The realisation and maybe the hope..

MP3: Chemical Brothers – Alive Alone

MP3: New Order – Temptation

A heaven, a gateway, a hope
Just like a feeling I need, it’s no joke
And though it hurts me to treat you this way
Betrayed by words, I’d never heard, too hard to say

Up, down, turn around
Please don’t let me hit the ground
Tonight I think I’ll walk alone
I’ll find my soul as I go home.

Each way I turn, I know I’ll always try
To break this circle that’s been placed around me
From time to time, I find I’ve lost some need
That was urgent to myself, I do believe

Up, down, turn around
Please don’t let me hit the ground
Tonight I think I’ll walk alone
I’ll find my soul as I go home.

Oh, you’ve got green eyes
Oh, you’ve got blue eyes
Oh, you’ve got grey eyes
Oh, you’ve got green eyes
Oh, you’ve got blue eyes
Oh, you’ve got grey eyes
And I’ve never seen anyone quite like you before
No, I’ve never met anyone quite like you before

Thoughts from above hit the people down below
People in this world, we have no place to go
Oh, it’s the last time
Oh, I’ve never met anyone quite like you before

A Place To Find Strangers

WARNING: This article contains the abbreviation APTBS a lot, this is an abbreviation of A Place To Bury Strangers. Some people don’t know that, isn’t that right Chris?

The build up to last nights “A Place To Bury Strangers” and “Japandroids” gig at the Captains Rest couldn’t have been worse. I wasn’t feeling too grand (the beginnings of a cold i think), i was very tired, i had sore limbs from the previous nights 5-a-side football (Andy/Begbie nearly broke my foot!) and also due to certain circumstances i was now going to the gig on my own. Looked like i was set to have a brilliant night eh?

Well, actually, yes i did.

I arm myself with my camera, my bank card and my iPod and i’m off. I make my journey to the Captains Rest accompanied by a soundtrack of the APTBS debut album and 10 Marlboro Lights. I’m still not too optimistic about the night ahead. The plan is: sneak into the venue, hope nobody spots that i’m on my own, have a few beers, listen to the music then go back to the city centre and meet up with the rest of the guys that were out. They were away to see Kasabian and Alice in Chains respectively. My opinions on them? The latter band i love and if it wasn’t for the APTBS gig being on the same night i would be at the Barra’s watching them. As for the former, i USED to love them. Their self titled debut album was amazing, just what was needed at the time in 2004, a fresh change from the drab music of the time. Then somehow Kasabian just got shit. I won’t elaborate on reasons why or go into my feelings on them, i just think they’re now Oasis in disguise. Back to last night now.

I enter the Captains Rest and shuffle straight up to the bar, order a pint of Kronenbourg then retire to the end of the bar. I’m just standing there thinking bout random things (how cool would it be to have a triangle donut? does the postman deliver his own mail? why is Robbie Williams allowed to live?) like i always do, when suddenly a dude comes up and says “nice hoodie, where’d you get it?”. He’s referring to my DFA1979 hoodie. Which, by the way, is nice, i like it 🙂 I’m only just realising that it always seems to garner attention wherever i go so maybe i’ll stop wearing it now! I’ve never been one for attention, i prefer staying in the background. Although i’m glad i wore it tonight or else i may very well have spent this gig on my own! I’ll explain..

I get chatting to him about various things for fifteen minutes or so. Music, beer, football, weed, facial hair, the usual man banter really. I find out he plays guitar and loves shoegaze-y music, a good bonus , i also enquire about his accent and discover he’s French. His name’s Romain. Just as we’re bantering away, two girls walk over. Anna and Francesca. Francesca is Romains girlfriend, she’s also French and Anna is an English girl who is helping them settle in Glasgow. I find out that they moved here in the summer. More to the point i’m just happy i’ve met people and i’m not on my own at this gig anymore! We buy a few rounds of Red Stripe then head downstairs to watch the gig. Romain hands me a strange little box, i struggle to read it in the dark, i squint and can just about see the writing on it. Eventually i recognise the writing as “A Place To Bury Strangers” and “Exploding Head”. Romain says to keep the box but to open it up first. I open it and find ear plugs in it. Romain explains that he seen APTBS live in NY last year, consequently met the band and they gave him a few of these boxes and they sometimes sell them at their gigs. How cool is that?! Anyway, i thank him for the gift but then close the box back over. There’s no way i’m going to lessen the impact that APTBS and Japandroids have on my ears, on record they are loud, live they are absolutely frighteningly loud. I like it that way. No ear plugs for me.

japandroids1

Japandroids @ Captains Rest 12/11/09

The Captains Rest is the perfect setting for the the noise of APTBS and Japandroids. Its tiny “sardines packed in a tin” feel brings the audience closer than any other venue i’ve ever known. Any band that i’ve seen here previously couldn’t have prepared us for what was ahead though.

jap2

Brian King: Guitars and Vox (Japandroids)

The Japandroids scramble on stage and introduce themselves, this is the Canadian duo’s first time in Scotland. They look pleasantly surprised at the amount of support they get from the crowd and then blast through a set full of punk noise the belies the capability of just two men. Brian King plays guitar and does the lions share of the vocals and David Prowse bangs the skins and screams and sings his way through his fair share of songs as well. I’ve been into the Japandroids since about March this year. I found them on Last FM and have tried my best to spread the word since. They remind me of a certain band. I’ll let you guess. Canadian? Two piece? Noise Rock? Plenty facial fuzz? Tunes to back up the punk attitude?….You got it yet? ….Make no mistake, these guys have the potential to be the new Death From Above 1979. Although to be honest i don’t like comparing bands to each other, it’s not fair on either so instead i’ll just say the Japandroids sound like they might be influenced by DFA and it’s a badge they seem to wear with pride. One things for sure though, they have a more “garage rock” feel about them then DFA, who had a more “electro” feel when they were around. I can only hope that Japandroids will be around a lot longer than DFA were and release a few more albums than their Canadian counterparts. They certainly made a perfect start with their debut album “Post Nothing”, it’s out now, get it bought. And don’t make any excuses! It’s not hard to find, i bought mine in Fopp. Like i said earlier, last nights show was the Japandroids first show in Scotland but it certainly won’t be their last, in fact they announced at the end of their set that they’ll be back over here next February. Be there. I will.

japandroids3

David Prowse : Drums and Vox (Japandroids)

MP3:  Japandroids – Heart Sweats

MP3: Japandroids – Crazy Forever

The Japandroids song “Wet Hair” is my favourite track of theirs. My band Capgras covered it back in August and we changed the lyrics from “Wet Hair” to “Red Hair” and dedicated it to Si’s girlfriend!

VIDEO: Japandroids – Wet Hair

And now in the words of Japandroids drummer David Prowse “I hope you’re ready to have your face melted by A Place To Bury Strangers, you’ll lose brain cells if you’re down the front, they make us sound like an acoustic folk duo”. Brain cells? Lose? Down the front? That’s me fucked then. In all seriousness though that is mighty words coming from a guy whose band just about tore the ceiling off with their noise decibels. After all the roadies and guitar fiddler guys have left and the stage is good to go we move to part two of the gig. Enter stage left A Place To Bury Strangers. The dry ice ascends and the red mist covers the stage. My first thought is how the band have managed to fit on stage. Their amps are massive and the the pedals are spread out all over the floor, there’s wires, leads and cables going everywhere. How APTBS have squeezed on to this tiny platform is a mystery. But they’re here and they’re ready to blow us away. And they proceed to do just that. Starting off with some improvised effect intros and barging straight into “Missing You” then carrying on into a mixture of tracks from their eponymous debut album and new release “Exploding Head”. They hardly stop for breath between songs and Oliver Ackermann mumbles a few words here and there to the crowd. Nobody here though is bothered about crowd interaction, we didn’t come to have a chat with the band members. We came to have our ears assaulted. The band continue to pulverise our senses and end the gig with an extended wall of sound jam, leaving us with feedback ringing in our ears all the way upstairs and even 5 minutes later outside having a smoke we can still hear the lingering buzz of the Death By Audio pedals that Ackermann is famous for. We are well and truly bruised by the levels of noise we’ve just experienced. But thats what we expected, what we wanted and what we got.

VIDEO: A Place To Bury Strangers – In Your Heart

Afterwards whilst in the bar discussing the gig we all get talking about what we're upto the next day or at the weekend etc. Francesca and Anna are going shopping (might have guessed!), Romain is planning on watching the Republic of Ireland vs France football match on Saturday but has no one to watch it with (sound familiar?). But, yep, you guessed it, i'm going out to watch that game in the pub with a few mates and invited him along. A few more drinks and it's time for me to go catch the last Subway back to town or i'll need to taxi it. I kinda don't wanna go, i'm enjoying myself with these 3 "strangers" but needs must. Before i go we exchange numbers and i'm off into the night/early morning to spend what remains of this Thursday/Friday in Nice N Sleazys drinking White Russians and listening to my mates say how i bet i wished i'd just decided to go to Alice In Chains and how good Kasabian were…….. Well, i just had a fucking amazing night in the Captains Rest thank you very much.

Music and Lyrics #2

1. MEW – 156

“Don’t you just love goodbyes?”

From my boat, i can see your house
And when the lights are on
I can watch you move
Hear the wind whispering your name
Twice the encouragement of the real you

Callie, if you really want me to
I can always get you down
If you got the money for me
Callie, in the summer rain
You and me can dry, you see
If you got the money for me

Making amends for distant wrongs, sincere

You can run away
Leave your books behind you
But you should look back twice
Just to be on the safe side

From my boat i can see your house
But now the lights are off
There’s no one home

You are just like an avalanche
Cold as I might have guessed
But at least I’m covered up for now

In a big big way i am really small
I get off my feet but i’m still distant

Don’t you just love goodbyes?
Don’t you just love goodbyes?

Callie, let us get it over with
I can always get you down
If you’ve got the money for me
Callie in the summer rain
You and me can dry, you see
If you’ve got the money for me

Most of our lives we try so hard to find the time

I won’t care for you
Like I’m really supposed to
There are things I’ll do
That could really hurt you

Don’t you just love goodbyes?
Don’t you just love goodbyes?

Don’t you just love goodbyes?

2. THE XX – NIGHT TIME

“We’ll talk about it soon”

You mean that much to me and it’s hard to show
It gets hectic inside of me when you go
Can I confess these things to you
Well I don’t know
Embedded in my chest and it hurts to hold

I couldn’t spill my heart
My eyes gleam looking in from the dark
I walk out in stormy weather
Hope my words keep us together
Steady walking but bound to trip
Should release but just tighten my grip

Night time
Sympathize
I’ve been working on white lies
So I’ll tell the truth
I’ll give it up to you
And when the day comes it will all have been fun
We’ll talk about it soon

And I couldn’t spill my heart
My eyes gleam looking in from the dark
I walk out in stormy weather
Hope my words keep us together
Steady walking but bound to trip
Should release but just tighten my grip

Night time
Sympathize
I’ve been working on white lies
So I’ll tell the truth
I’ll give it up to you
And when the day come it will have all been fun
We’ll talk about it soon

3. TWILIGHT SINGERS – FORTY DOLLARS

“She Loves You, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah”

suckers swallow every time, airplane come erase your mind
seems there’s been an accident, telephone cost ya fifty cent
to find out the retail, gory detail
nothing here for me, i get all of my kicks for free

mangy dog without a collar, buy me love for forty dollars
i got love for sale, come on get some before it gets stale
again, i win, the double for a lie, i get my money on the fly
we’re throwin’ down, so come on by, i’ll be around

i got 3-6-9, another dollar makes a dime
y’all in double dutch again, notify your next of kin, i said

mangy dog without a collar, buy me love for forty dollars
i got love for sale, come on get some before it gets stale
now, love don’t mean a thing, but 2am and a telephone ring

love is all you need, and all you need is love
love is all you need, and all you need is love
we go underground, cos there’s emptiness above
she loves you yeah-yeah-yeah
she loves you yeah-yeah-yeah
she loves you yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah

i’m just bein’
i’m just bein’
i’m just bein’
i’m just bein’
honest

4. THE NATIONAL – BRAINY

“You might need me more than you think you will”

I’ve been draggin around from the end of your coat for two weeks
Everywhere you go is swirlin, everything you say has water under it

You know I keep your fingerprints in a pink folder in the middle of my table
You’re the tall kingdom I surround
Think I better follow you around

You might need me more than you think you will
Come home in the car you love, brainy brainy brainy

I’ve been draggin around from the end of your coat for two weeks
You keep changing you’re fancy fancy mind every time I decide to let go

I was up all night again, boning up and reading the American dictionary
You’ll never believe me what I found
Think I better follow you around

You might need me more than you think you will
Come home in the car you love, brainy brainy brainy
you might need me more than you think you will
come home in the car you love, brainy brainy brainy

5. LONGWAVE – SIRENS IN THE DEEP SEA

“You’re the only one that can”

I’ve been trying to reach you, oh
I’ve trying to get through, oh
It’s so hard to let you know
I’ve been trying, yes, it’s true, oh

You’re the only one that can
The lonely one again
You’re the only one that can
You are alone

I’ve been swimming in the deep sea
Sirens come up to greet me
But it’s not so good to be

The only one that can
The lonely once again
You’re the only one that can
You are alone

You’re the only one that can
The lonely one again
You’re the only one that can
You are alone

You’re the only one that can
The lonely once again
You’re the only one that can
You are alone
You are alone
