THE MONDAY LIST #24: Fuckity Fuck Fuck

Apparently, i swear too fucking much…

According to friends i use the word “fuck” way too much in every day life.

Examples i’ve been given…

A. “That’s fucking amazing!”
B. “What the fuck was that all about?”
C. “Did you fucking see that?!
D. “I’m fucked, man.”
E. “Fuckin hell!”
F(uck).
G. “Fuuuuuuuuuuuck!”

Obviously i use other swear words but apparently “fuck” and it’s various usages are my favourite. So here’s a fucking Monday List with a twist. Well make that two Monday Lists for the price of one. I had so much fucking fun making up a List with “fuck” in the song title that i thought i’d make another one up with swear words/insults in the bands name.

Fuck This List

MP3’s
1. McLusky – Fuck This Band
2. The Subs – Fuck That Shit

I thinking swearing is maybe a Scottish trait and is in our blood. We don’t mean any harm or offence by it. It’s just crept it’s way into out day to day language. We just fucking embrace it i suppose.

Fuck Off Machete – What’s The Signal?

And lastly, my hero…

THE MONDAY LIST #19: Digital Drugs

Tomorrow marks the release of the tenth anniversary edition of the classic Queens of the Stone Age album “Rated R”. One of my favourite albums of all time by one of my favourite bands of all time.  The album contains references to drugs throughout, no more so than in the opening track “Feel Good Hit of the Summer” where the only lyrics  are “Nicotine, valium, vicodin, marijuana, ecstasy and alcohol” before a chorus solely made up of the word “Cocaine” comes in. Messy, wonderfully loose and instantly ear catching. The rest of the album follows suit and makes for an absolute classic record.

MP3: Queens of the Stone Age – Feel Good Hit Of The Summer

All the drug references in Rated R gave me  an idea for the next Monday List….

Drugs may be the road to nowhere but at least they’re the scenic route….

DIGITAL DRUGS
________________

1. The Music – Drugs
2. Oceansize – Women Who Love Men Who Love Drugs
3. Union of Knives – We Are All Doing Drugs
4. The Verve – The Drugs Don’t Work
5. Jimmy Eat World – Drugs or Me
6. Adam Green – Drugs
7. Thieves Like Us – Drugs In My Body
8. Ratatat – Drugs
9. Wilco – Handshake Drugs
10. Black Lips – Drugs

There are of course many different types of drugs, too many to list in fact but here are a few bonus tracks.

BONUS TRACKS

MP3: Neon Indian – Should Have Taken Acid With You

MP3: The Magnetic Fields – Take Ecstasy With Me

MP3: Maps – Valium In The Sunshine

MP3: The Velvet Underground and Nico – Heroin

MP3: Phosphorescent – Cocaine Lights

Apparently there’s a new “drug” sweeping the universe at the moment. It’s called “i-dosing”. It’s the process of putting on headphones and listening to music that apparently induces a state of ecstasy. I know, sounds fucked up, right? These MP3’s are freely available and suggest that you “maybe lie down” and “relax” before closing your eyes and allowing the “music” to give you auditory and visual hallucinations.

Want a “hit”…

I’ve just got a hilarious picture in my head of a shady looking guy standing on a dark street corner, shiftily opening his trenchcoat to passers by and asking “Here mate, after any MP3’s?” or “I’ve got some really good stuff here. Albums, singles even some b-sides. Got some bootlegs too, this 70’s stuff will really fuck your mind”.

Who knows if this “i-dosing” works and frankly who cares? Seems like just another internet craze. I have no desire to try it and i’m certainly not in a hurry to overdose on music just yet so i won’t be dabbling with this nonsensical idea any time soon. I’ll stick to Boards of Canada, Spacemen 3, Gold Panda and Aphex Twin as my “drug music”.

*I would just like to state that this post/article is not in anyway intended to condone or promote drug use.*

MP3: Marilyn Manson – I Don’t Like The Drugs (But The Drugs Like Me)

THE MONDAY LIST#7: With The Lights Out It’s Less Dangerous

With winter well and truly on its way we’re now experiencing dark mornings and dark (early) evenings. Well maybe not everybody gets to see the dark mornings, some may not have the displeasure of having to arise at 6am but i do and by the time i get home from work it’s either half 5 or 6. Sometimes later. Basically at this time of year i feel like a vampire, i hardly see any daylight, between the hours of 8am and 5pm i’m stuck in a garage all day and because it’s cold this time of year the huge shutter door is left firmly closed, opening only to let vehicles enter and leave. So i get the odd glimpse of daylight but not much, apart from when break time comes and it’s outside to bask in the cold, frosty air while i can!

night_vision

But even though it may seem like i’m complaining about the dark, it’s the exact opposite. Now before you get the wrong idea, i’m not some strange guy who likes to sit in the dark all the time on my own and plot the worlds downfall but there is something very appealing and calming about being in the dark. If you’re alone, it can be relaxing, especially with music and if you’re with someone then it heightens and alleviates everything that goes on, your voice is clearer, your senses get stronger, right through from smell to touch, pretty much everything. I’m sure everybody has sat late into the night with friends and talked in the dark at some point. Especially in the days when you’d have friends staying over. I used to sit up obscenely late into the dark hours of the morning with a really good friend of mine and just talk for hours about everything and anything.

And in the dark there are no illusions, there’s nothing to see, nothing to hide, its just, well, dark i suppose.

So, here’s the most apt tracks i could come up with…

MP3’s
With The Lights Out, It’s Less Dangerous
———————————————————-

1. M83 – Dark Moves of Love
2. The Music – Turn Out The Light
3. Death Cab For Cutie – I Will Follow You into the Dark
4. Bruce Springsteen – Dancing In The Dark
5. Placebo – InfraRed
6. Yo La Tengo – When It’s Dark
7. I Love You But I’ve Chosen Darkness – Lights
8. Free Energy – Dark Trance
9. D.C LaRue – Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark
10. Lamb – Darkness

late night in glasgow

VIDEOS

DJ Shadow – Midnight In A Perfect World

IAMX – Nightlife

Depending on which way you look at it this video is slightly contradicting the whole post but it’s that good that i couldn’t leave it out….and it’s The Smiths so it’s allowed.

The Smiths – There Is A Light That Never Goes Out

“Take Me Out Tonight. Where’s There’s Music And There’s People And They’re Young And Alive.”
